Occupational Health is a specialist branch of medicine that focuses on the health and wellbeing of employees in the workplace.
Working with the Universities’ policies and process, we provide a service that promotes and preserves the physical and mental wellbeing of staff. It also assists in detecting and preventing ill health in the work place.
The Occupational Health Service offers a range of service to the University, its employees and eligible students. These include:
- Advice to managers on fitness to work for newly employed staff
- Advice to managers in regards to disabilities and relevant legislation such as the Equality Act 2010
- Advice to managers in regards to staff illness and absence from work
- Advice to managers for staff returning to work following illness
- Advice to managers in regards to the effect an employee’s health may be having in the workplace or the effect the workplace may be having on the employee’s health
- Ill-health retirement reviews
- Assisting the university in fulfilling Statutory and Regulatory Requirements as defined by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and public bodies such as the Public Health England (PHE) and the Government
- Conducting health surveillance and other health monitoring activities, as determined by risk assessment, for employees and eligible students
- Immunisations for eligible staff and students
- Travel clinic advice and travel vaccinations for eligible staff and medical students for elective placements
- Employee counselling service
- Advice and promotion of health and wellbeing at work
